Water Tax Rates in different areas and in different Establishments of the State
Urban Areas
In the areas within the Shillong Municipality, water is distributed to the consumers by the Shillong Municipal Board & the areas outside the municipal limits by the PHED. At present major quantity of water for Shillong is generated by PHED & a small part by municipality. The dept. supplies water in Shillong Municipal area through municipal & PHE tanks free of charges for eventual distribution by Shillong Municipal Board. Shillong Municipal Board collects consolidated Tax from the households in the municipal area. The water tax is a part of the consolidated Tax. In the areas outside Shillong Municipality, wherever PHED has provided house connections, the water Tax is collected by PHED as per Rules of Water Supply 2008 notified by Goivt. Vide no. PHE.26/96/140 dtd 13.10.2008 as per following rates:-
1. Domestic unmetered connections :
(a) Urban / Semi urban areas
15 mm Φ - Rs. 194 / connection / month
2. Domestic metered connections :
- Urban / Semi urban areas - Rs. 8.00 per 1000 litres
The rates of Bulk supply applicable for local bodies/Defense establishment/Central Govt Department’s Complex having their own distribution network is Rs. 9.50 per 1000 litres. The rates for Shops, Non AC restaurants, office premises, Govt hospitals/Govt dispensaries , offices of PSUs, Govt. undertaking etc is Rs. 12.00/1000 litres. The rates of Bulk supply applicable for hotels/industrial unit run in factory area/industrial area, guest house, AC restaurants, banquet halls, cinema halls, private hospitals, nursing homes etc is Rs. 18.00 per 1000 litres.
In Tura town, water is generated by PHED & distributed to the consumers by Garo Hills Autonomous District council (GHADC). The revenue is collected by GHADC. In all other towns of the state, the responsibility of generation as well as distribution lies with PHED. Water connection has also been provided by the dept. in these towns based on demand as well as availability of water.
Rural Areas
There is no provision for house connections in rural water supply schemes as per the norms of Govt. of India. However, in few cases, house connection is provided, but their numbers are negligible. The water tax is collected as per Rules of Water Supply 2008 notified by Govt. Vide no. PHE.26/96/140 dtd 13.10.2008 as per following rates:-
1. Domestic unmetered connections :
(a) Rural areas
15 mm Φ - Rs. 138 / connection / month
2. Domestic metered connections :
Rural areas - Rs. 5.25 per 1000 litres.
